Opioid Addiction

Opioids are primarily used as pain relievers and can be found in many prescription drugs. Most opioids, whether synthetic or not are derived from the Opium poppy, thus giving it its name. Opioid addiction has increased in recent years as the level of prescription drugs using opioids has risen.

Opioid Addiction occurs after a dependence to opioid containing drugs has built up. Opioids provide pain relief and a euphoric feeling. As opioid users take more and more of their drug they build up a tolerance and need more of the drug to receive the desired effect. Unfortunately this path to Opioid addiction is far too easy for many innocent prescription drug users. Many of these people can form an Opioid addiction within a short amount of time.
