Crack Addiction
Crack addiction is one of society’s greatest tragedies. People addicted to crack cocaine will stop at almost nothing to obtain the drug. Crack addiction has spread to all levels of our society; rich, poor, and everyone else. Family members of crack cocaine addicts live in chaos and confusion, they do not understand the functioning of crack addiction.
Crack Addiction: What is crack?
Crack addiction is much worse than simple cocaine addiction. Crack is a name for the chemical cocaine hydrochloride. Users chemically process the cocaine to eliminate the hydrochloride. This process is known as “freebasing” and makes the drug stronger. “Crack” is a type of freebased cocaine. It is called “crack” as it makes snapping and cracking sounds when heated and used. One gram of pure powder cocaine will manufacture about 0.89 grams of crack. The Drug Enforcement Administration calculates that crack rocks are from seventy five to ninety % pure cocaine.
Crack Addiction: Why is It Such a Dangerous Drug?
Crack addiction is dangerous partially because of the way it is used. Crack Cocaine is breathed in and quickly absorbed through the lungs, into the blood, and carried rapidly to the brain. The risks of overdosing and poisoning, leading to coma, convulsions, and even death are greatly increased.
Crack’s quick rush of 5 to 7 minutes of intense pleasure- quickly subsides, leading to the feeling of depression that needs to be alleviated by using more crack cocaine. This cycle raises the likelihood of addiction and dependency. Due to the short-lived high, abusers are always busy devising ways to get more crack cocaine.
Crack addiction acts psychologically. Crack drug lowers concentration, ambition, and drive, It also heightens confusion and irritability, creating problems in abusers’ professional and personal lives. Crack addiction and habitual use can cause coke psychosis resulting in paranoia, hallucinations, and a condition called fornication, in which insects or snakes are perceived to be crawling under the skin. The paranoia and depression may cause violent and suicidal behavior.
Crack addiction combined with the side effects of concurrent use of other drugs raise cocaine’s risks. The drug is often combined with one or more of all kinds of substances, such as cheaper drugs procaine, lidocaine, and benzocaine, and safe substances like sugars (mannitol and sucrose), or starches. However, when quinine or amphetamines are are combined with crack, the potential danger for serious side effects rises dramatically.
